Kisuri Resort cares about the environment, and growing tourism responsibly. We want tourism to be an opportunity to drive change and make a positive environmental and social impact.
Most of our energy comes from Solar Power and all our lighting is LED. We recycle and compost our waste and reduce food miles by growing many of our own organic fruit and vegetables. We implement sustainable practices throughout the property and through the services we offer. Saving on water by the use of water-efficient toilets and encouraging reuse of towels, providing reusable tableware and avoiding use of single-use plastics, are some of these examples.
We believe in giving back to, and uplifting, the local community. We are actively involved in supporting Wasamo Girls’ Secondary School within the marginalised community. It is the only girls’ school on the island and its environs, but it is underfunded and has dilapidated buildings.
We are driven by the need to join hands in breaking generational poverty by creating hope and opportunity for the vulnerable girls, to enable them to live a life of purpose. Our support through the community based organisation AGE (Abiero Girls’ Empowerment) is in fund-raising to sponsor education together with direct mentoring, to support their feeding programme, and to provide the necessary basic school infrastructure facilities.
Learn moreWe distribute revenue from tourism back into our community by providing local employment. The majority of our staff are local residents and our tours are offered by local guides.
